Who We Are
We are sisters and we were born in Silver Spring, Maryland and grew up in Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Burma and Libya. Our mom is from Taipei and our dad is from Minnesota. As kids, we grew up moving every two or three years and got to experience cultures all over the world -- it was amazing and it helped us see the world through lots of different perspectives!

I’ve always been a creative chameleon -- I love to write, draw, make things with clay, sing, and act! Growing up, Eunice and I used to stay up way past our bedtime imagining all the places we would live and travel. During the day, we’d make houses and clothes for our dolls, put on plays, set up shop, and play dress-up with our mom’s fantastic 1970’s wardrobe!
When I was in 6th grade, I came up with a comic book character called Medallion Man: a disco guy in platform shoes who looked like a cross between John Travolta and Barry Gibb -- I was a huge fan of the Bee Gees and the Solid Gold Dancers! That was my first serious foray into humor and writing. In high school, I did a lot of acting, directing, writing, and musical theater. I went on to study Art History at Swarthmore College, work with artists, schools, and museums. It was while I was an art history student that I really developed my love for noticing and writing about the absurd and wonderful in everyday life! After graduating from Stanford Business School with an MBA, I worked for a company that was helping to build better, more equitable schools, but I missed being creative. So, when Eunice called me to say she’d sold her first greeting cards, I decided to join her at Hello!Lucky. After about 15 years of making cards, and having three kids of my own, I started writing children’s books. I discovered I LOVE writing for kids, especially when my writing is combined with Eunice’s hilarious illustrations!
I live in San Francisco, California, with my husband Julian and our three children, James, Alex, and William. I try to make the world a better place by volunteering at The Mosaic Project, an Oakland, CA-based organization that teaches kids how to work together to create a just, peaceful, and equitable world.

I’ve been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil -- I think I scribbled my first drawing on the side of a milk carton! I’ve always been inspired by children’s book illustrations. I loved Shel Silverstein, Paul Rand, James Marshall, Calvin and Hobbes and Bloom County. At school, I was the kid who painted murals and designed theater posters, t-shirts and yearbook covers.
When I went to college, I studied graphic design and illustration, starting at Maryland Institute College of Art and finishing at Pacific Northwest College of Art. Eventually, I decided to learn letterpress printing and started Hello!Lucky, a greeting card company, in my garage with Sabrina and a few friends after buying an old printing press online! I was working at a pet shop at the time, and they asked me to make a few cards featuring dogs and cats. I didn’t paws (haha!) and soon we were selling cards to shops across the country!
I illustrated my first children’s books in 2018 when Abrams Appleseed asked us to create a book based on one of our popular Father’s Day cards, featuring a Yeti. Those books, My Dad is Amazing! and My Mom is Magical! became bestsellers and I’ve realized that LOVE illustrating for kids (because I’m just a big kid at heart!).
My illustrations have appeared on more than 15 books and counting, thousands of greeting cards and on everything from socks to pencil cases, pet bed and lamps!
I live in San Francisco, California, with my husband Daniel, our two children, Imogen and Jude, our dog, Freddie, and our cat, Sans Gêne.
Who Is Hello!Lucky
Hello!Lucky is the design studio that makes fun, pun-loving stuff for the young and young-at-heart. We create useful and cool stuff for people and their homes, everything from fabric (to make things like hats and pajamas) to stickers, socks, lamps, Christmas ornaments, lunch boxes, pillows, rugs, notebooks and wrapping paper.
When we started Hello!Lucky, we made greeting cards, something that we have loved since we were kids. The first cards we made had dogs and cats on them, but we soon realized we could put anything on a card -- vegetables, hot dogs, talking cheese, you name it! As long as it had puns, lots and lots of puns.
We love making people laugh with our funny drawings, friendly jokes, and upbeat attitude. Some people say our style is “juvenile,” which is a grown-up word for “kid-like,” and we take that as a mega compliment. On our cards, you’ll find lots of neon and shiny foil. We <3 neon! We <3 foil!
Our greeting cards are made on super old printing presses, known as letterpress machines -- the same ones that were used to print newspapers long ago -- at a cool print shop called Egg Press in Portland, Oregon, USA. We take pride in the fact that our cards are basically hand-made in small batches close to home. We try to make sure that the rest of the stuff we design is well-made and respectful of the people who make it, and the earth, too.
We <3 recycling! We <3 Mother Earth!
